GIG OF THE WEEK

Laurie Levine and Josie Field

Blue Stockings and Mantis & Moon |(Tonight and tomorrow)

HERE’S your chance to catch two extraordinary hard-working singer/songwriters, Laurie Levine and Josie Field, in action in their Side by Side Tour this weekend.

The duo will perform at Blue Stockings in Kloof tonight, at Mantis & Moon Backpackers in Umzumbe tomorrow and at The Factory Café in Gale Street on Sunday. The singers have more than 16 years’ experience, eight albums and a dozen South African Music Award nominations between them. According to a press release, the pair have done two national tours together and been dubbed the “collaboration of the year”. This folksy one-of-a-kind pairing demonstrates the ladies’ incredible musical ability as individual artists and through this, highlights their vocal differences which when combined, work astonishingly well together.

Down to earth in person, captivating performers and soulful songstresses, the Levine and Field mix is a potent combination.

The performance is said to be a real treat for music lovers.

The Side by Side show is solely acoustic and the musicians use a variety of instruments including the guitar, banjo, ukulele and many more with their distinctive vocal harmonies, as they present slightly different interpretations of their most popular songs, allowing both old and new fans to experience their material in a new light.

Debuting in March last year with almost a dozen sold out dates, the show wowed audiences and received critical praise.
