GIG OF THE WEEK

DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival

Featuring Chaka Khan, Loie Vega, Drizabone, Shakatak and Louie Vega

Huddle Recreation Park, Club St, Linksfield (tomorrow)

If you have been to the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival before, then you’ll know how much fun it can be. It’s basically an open field full of food stalls and music stages for you to enjoy. It’s like a giant picnic, only you do not have to bring a basket, everything you need will be available at the venue.

The festival always makes sure the music is top-notch. To warm you up and get you dancing will be one of the most accomplished American singers of all time, Chaka Khan. She inspired legends like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. In fact, for those who do not know, one of Houston’s biggest songs, I’m Every Woman, is a Khan cover. It’s also one of the few covers that Khan likes.

She has had an illustrious career from the Rufus days in the mid ’70s to her solo career to date. Look out for other hits including Through the Fire (the clean version, sans Kanye West) and Ain’t Nobody which should be playing in your head any second from now.

Joining her will be the talented house DJ, Louie Vega, who will feel at home given his fan base in South Africa. The man will definitely have a blast and his only problem might be limited time given that he has a large discography. Other artists to look out for include Drizabone and Shakatak.

The event will be hosted by ProVerb, MoG and Katlego Mabusela.

There will also be a number of Food Network chefs including Reza Mahammad, Siba Mtongana, Pete Goffee-Wood and Jenny Morris. – Tonight Reporter

l General access: R450pp, Delicious Lounge: R900pp, Decadance Luxury Lounge: R3 500, under-12s: R200 a child.
