GIG OF THE WEEK

DJs Black Coffee and Friends

Blue Room (Tomorrow)

One of South Africa’s best-known DJs, Black Coffee, will be at Pretoria’s Blue Room in Hatfield tonight.

Black Coffee has been in the game for a long time and one thing he will not struggle with is what to play. With Pretoria the capital of house music, the DJ will have to be well prepared for the Tshwane crowd.

After the success of his Africa Rising project, Black Coffee has proved to be among the finest house music DJs the country has produced. While his music is a blend of old and new styles, the deckmaster separates himself from his peers by adding an African touch to his sound. This makes his material viable on the local and international markets.

And the fact that he is a well- travelled musician puts him in a good creative space.

In a previous interview, Black Coffee let it be known that his exposure to other countries influences his music. He also said that while he is on the road overseas, he makes music in odd places like airports and hotel rooms.

This, he said, was so that he remains “in the moment” to be able to produce music that is influenced by any given place he find himself in.

With this kind of thorough methodology in honing his craft, you know Black Coffee is nothing short of a class act.

His talent is so in demand that very few people get to see him perform so if you are in the Pretoria area tonight then get yourself to Blue Rooom (cnr Festival and Arcadia streets, Hatfield) before 6pm.

The magnificent DJ will be joined by Ado Tyga and Gheezeboy. Admission TBA. Tel: 072 436 5949.
