AS THE year winds down, we look forward to the music releases that will come our way just before Christmas.

If you are a Tebs David fan, you will be happy to know that he shoots a live DVD recording on Saturday. Shot at Mamelodi International Assemblies of God in Pretoria, the project will showcase David’s journey to date.

“I have new songs which I need my fans to hear. I have collaborated with several friends who include Benjamin Dube, Solly Mahlangu and my own artists Takie, Maira and Bethel,” said David.

“There will also be a surprise guest, but we will only reveal this on the day of the shoot.”

This live DVD is David’s second one after an unfortunate 2009 trial which did not turn out as expected.

“Without going into it too much, we recorded a solid project, but some unforeseen events took place right after it. We were learning and today are much wiser. In hindsight I feel it helped me go back to the drawing board and really push for the best possible product yet. We will get it right this time as everything is ready,” he said.

Talking about the order of events on the day, David let it slip that the bulk of the material will be new, but there will also be older songs for the mature David fan.

“I have several new songs, but we can’t forget the classics and the favourites. So essentially there will be something for everyone,” he said.

In past interviews, David has insinuated that he does not get as much local support as he does internationally. This time he sang a different tune.

“I am happy to say that with time it appears that people at home have begun to take my music seriously and this is partly why I am excited to do this project at this time,” he explained.

Several high-placed people are also said to be attending this DVD shoot to support this endeavour.

“We will have a lot of people coming through including my close relation Richard Maponya and the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago among others,” he said.

On a sad note, David is mourning the death of the great Bahaman preacher and author, Miles Munroe, who died in a plane crash earlier this month.

“We were supposed to meet in February for a conference which he had invited me to so it is sad that he is now gone. We will honour him at the weekend as well,” said the singer.

• All the artists who will support David will have their CDs and DVDs available on sale at the venue. R150 at Computicket.
