A controversial song about ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was eagerly awaited by the public, but had not yet hit the shelves of Durban music shops by Thursday.

Jet Music and Musica said the CD was not yet available, but that there had been keen interest from the public.

“People have been coming in and asking if we have the CD since the news broke that there was a song about Malema,” Musica store assistant Patience Hlengwa said.

Shobeni Khuzwayo, the producer of the song, told The Mercury newspaper the CD would be available in stores on Thursday afternoon.

Discs City store manager Deen Chetty said the shop did not have the CD in stock, but had placed an order.

Khuzwayo said: “If music stores don’t have the CD it’s because our orders have increased and that has delayed the process of it getting in stores.”

Izingane Zoma, a maskandi group, reportedly wrote a song criticising Malema's conduct.

ANC Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa said the league would fight the release of the song in court and would sue the group for defamation.

“If they release that stupid song, we will hit them hard,” Magaqa said. – Sapa
