Los Angeles - INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1997, will be the subject of a new movie by two filmmakers who want to protect the Australian rocker's legacy, Hollywood media said on Monday.
The project, Slide Away, is being made by INXS video director Nick Egan and producer Clark Westerman, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The charismatic Hutchence was found dead in November 1997 in a Sydney hotel room, the apparent victim either of suicide or accidental death from asphyxiation. His death at 37 shocked fans across the globe.
Westerman said he decided on the project after the low rating recently received by a television show meant to pick Hutchence's successor as INXS lead singer.
"That is not the memory of what we are after, and that's not the story of who the man is. What we are aiming for is the journey through a person's life via their head," Westerman told the Hollywood Reporter.
The project's name comes from a posthumous duet that paired Hutchence with U2's Bono, the producer said.
Egan directed many of the videos from INXS' late-1980s and early-1990s heyday when the band dominated the charts with tracks like Suicide Blonde, Listen Like Thieves and New Sensation. - AFP
