Legendary jazz musician Joe Sample has died. He was 75.
The Houston-born Sample died on Friday.
He co-founded the Modern Jazz Sextet while he was in high school. The group later moved to Los Angeles.
Sample subsequently formed a bebop band called The Jazz Crusaders, and by the 1970s the group became an enormously successful crossover act known as The Crusaders.
Sample was also an in-demand session player in the 1970s, working with BB King, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye, and others.
He is survived by his wife, Yolanda, and his son, Niklas.
