Just days 'til Snoop roars into SA

With so much drama in the L-B-C, it’s kind of hard being Snoop D-O-Double-G.

Hmm. No one believed it was even a little bit hard being Snoop Dogg (pictured) when the rapper born Calvin Broadus opened his hugely popular song, Gin and Juice with that line. Then of course, later, Murder was the Case that they gave him and a recent trip to Jamaica changed his life. So he changed D-O-Double-G to L-I-O-N.

Sorry, there’s no cool way to say Snoop Lion. But what is cool is that the Long Beach, California, flag-raiser will perform in Durban, Joburg and Cape Town this weekend.

It was initially announced that the West Coast icon would be appearing at MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday. Following that, Snoop Lion will perform at Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Joburg on Sunday and at the GrandWest Arena at the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town next Tuesday.

At the MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal event, however, he will be a part of a star-studded line-up that comprises some of the finest musical acts in African. So expect to see the likes of Nigerian export, DBanj, as well as 2Face Idibia and Flavour (of Nwa Baby fame), Kenyan hip hop crew, Camp Mulla, South Africa’s own Professor, Zahara, Big Nuz and Zakes Bantwini among others.

For Jozi and the Mother City the US rapper will treat audiences to a solo show of hits that span 12 albums and two decades. As you’ve probably seen the Reincarnated documentary or heard by now, Snoop changed from Dogg to Lion following a life-altering trip to Jamaica.

His Reincarnated album, released last month, sees Snoop take a departure from hip hop to explore reggae and dancehall.

Executive produced by Diplo, the album features the likes of Movado, Popcaan and Collie Buddz. Hopefully, Snoop will bring the Dogg era into the mix when he performs this weekend.

• Catch Snoop Lion, Zahara, Camp Mulla, Big Nuz and plenty more at MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal at People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday. Then see Snoop Lion at Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Joburg on Sunday and at the GrandWest Arena at the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town on Tuesday.
