Johannesburg - The nominees for this year's instalment of the Channel O Music Video Awards were unveiled on Thursday with local rappers Cassper Nyovest and KO going head to head for the most nominations with five each.

Nyovest is responsible for the infectious hit Doc Shebeleza, while KO surprised his fans with the amazing street anthem Caracara.

Both artists clash in the Most Gifted Male, Most Gifted Hip Hop, Most Gifted Southern and Most Gifted Video of the year categories. The entire competition is basically between these two.

Also, with an impressive five nominations is Nigerian sensation Davido who has been getting awards from the recent MTV Africa Awards to the BETs in Los Angeles.

If South Africa votes as convincingly as they did last year and the year before that, then there is a chance most of these trophies will stay home.

Coming close to the five nominations, is DJ Clock's hit Pluto which features the singing trio Beatenberg.

The song was nominated in the Most Gifted Duo, Group or Featuring, Most Gifted Dance, Most Gifted Southern and Most Gifted Video.

The Channel O Africa Music Video Awards will be taking place on Saturday, November 29 at Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto.

There is a good chance that Pluto will walk away with something as it has done well on radio, but since these are the video awards, the emphasis is on the visual artistry that comes with a given song.

AKA and Uhuru come close with three nominations apiece.

AKA was nominated for his song Congratulate in the Most Gifted Hip Hop, Most Gifted Southern and Most Gifted Video Of The Year.

He has been on this stage before and scooped so many accolades and so he really has nothing to prove this year. For a song that's fairly new, Congratulate did very well in even getting this much attention from these awards.

Uhuru have been a sensation since entering the music industry recently.

Their entry is the party song Y-Tjukutja, which is nominated in the Most Gifted Duo, Most Gifted Dance and the Most Gifted Kwaito.

It is surprising that they did not make it into the Most Gifted Video Of The Year as it has been topping the charts for several years.

Mafikizolo return to The Channel O Music Video Awards with a song from their comeback album, Reunited.

This time, the video to Happiness, which features May D made the cut in the Most Gifted Afro-pop category.
