Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo say they have been left “speechless” at the news that they have been nominated for an award at the BET Awards, to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The award-winning group have been nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category, together with Ghanaian hip hop artist Sarkodie and Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage.

Not only have Mafikizolo been nominated at the awards, but the group will also perform tonight in LA ahead of the awards. It will be the first time that Mafikizolo have performed in the US.

Mafikizolo said they were excited to be performing in the US for the first time.

“Honestly it still hasn’t sunk in that we are performing on such a huge platform,” said Nhlanhla Nciza.

“I think it is the biggest achievement of our music career as we are nominated among Africa’s best. We really thank God for this great opportunity.

“We believe that African music is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Mafikizolo has dominated the music industry in South Africa over the last year, having scooped several big awards, at the Samas as well as the MTV Africa Awards.
