Mahoota (pictured) is celebrating his 50th birthday in style. The kwaito artist, house producer, Kalawa Jazmee director, Trompies member, DJ and all-around cool guy is throwing his annual birthday bash at Taboo on Friday night.

As usual, he is expecting a snaking queue of more than 2000 people from around midnight till 3am. That’s how popular his Carnival Madness birthday parties have become. There will be three stages and 50 artists and DJs.

The action will start at 9pm and end (in typical Kalawa fashion) at 6am. According to the line-up, Durban favourite, DJ Bongs, is set to play at 6am. Yikes! Other DJs booked to play their favourite house tracks are Metro FM’s Glenzito, former Metro FM DJ, Fistaz, YFM’s Mo Flava, DJ Fresh’s little pet, Euphonik, and latest flavour of the nano second, Merlon.

On another stage, the Kalawa party will get started at around 2am with Dr Malinga and his kick. The magnificent Thebe, Black Motion and Oskido will follow with Afrotainment cousin, Tira, also in the mix. Award winners and game change extraordinaire, Uhuru, are booked to play around 5am. With all the alleged infighting going on between the prima donnas of the band, bets are on as to whether they will even turn up.

Black Motion will certainly turn up as Mahoota is one of their bosses and they won’t want to make him angry. However, lately they have been rubbing up powerful people in the industry the wrong way. This apparently includes an adult contemporary Gauteng radio station as well the producers for a recent award ceremony belonging to the second- biggest radio station in the country. Calm down, now, young fellas. Learn from your elders in Kalawa otherwise you ain’t gonna be around for as long as they have.

Hip hop will have its own stage on the night with Milkshake, Naked DJ and Dimplez on the decks. Expect performances by Kwesta, Ricky Rick and Kalawa’s very own AB Crazy. YFM and Live Amp’s Warras will end the jol when he starts DJ-ing at 4am. Also look out for Heavy K and Metro FM Best Kwaito winner, L’Vovo, as well as Mahoota’s BFF, Pepsi, and hip hop king DJs, Sphe n Naves.

It’s gonna be wild, crazy and so much fun. And, mos def, you will spot Mahoota and his cigar and cognac. I double dare you to ask if he really is 50!
