Zef rap crew Die Antwoord may revel in the ghetto (some would say gutter) aesthetic, but they sure have made some famous friends.
The video for their new single Ugly Boy – a macabre pastiche of David Lynch and Lady Gaga stylings – features a few cameos by American counter-culture stars like Marilyn Manson, Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, as well as model Cara Delevingne and comic actor Jack Black.
Die Antwoord, fronted by Ninja and the scary blonde Yolandi Vi$$er, have made their bones off the back of some risque, even downright bizarre, music videos, and Ugly Boy is from the same twisted mould. It makes for fascinating viewing nonetheless, and has garnered over 1.8-million views on YouTube already since it was uploaded on November 4. Opinions are, as always, divided over the quality of the music.
Ugly Boy is a single off Die Antwoord’s latest album Donker Mag (Dark Power) which was released in June.
