GRAMMY-nominated soul and R&B artist Trey Songz will perform at Durban’s People’s Park, next to the Moses Mabhida Stadium, as part of a two-city tour of South Africa that includes a performance at Johannesburg’s Ticket Pro Dome on August 9.

To be brought to South Africa by Elite Concerts, Songz, who was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson, is a singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and actor.

His tour coincides with the release of Trigga Reloaded, the sixth album from the 30-year-old, whose debut album, I Gotta Make It, was released in 2005.

His second album, Trey Day, spawned his first Top 20 single, Can’t Help But Wait, and his third album, Ready, in 2009, contained the single Say Aah, which reached No 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Songz’s first Top 10 hit.

Songz was nominated for the statuette for best male R&B vocal performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards. The following year he achieved his highest-charting song to date, Bottoms Up, featuring rapper Nicki Minaj, from his fourth studio album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure.

In 2012, Songz released his first No 1 album, Chapter V, which debuted atop the Billboard 200. The album’s first single, Heart Attack, was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Named as best R&B/soul male artist at the 2014 Soul Train Awards, Songz has spent much of this year on the road, with sell-out tours of the US and Europe, alongside artists such as Minaj, Chris Brown and Tyga.

He was a headliner at a historic concert celebrating Namibia’s 25th Independence Day festivities at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium, and was among top entertainers, professional athletes and business leaders inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs Of America 25th Annual Alumni Hall Of Fame.

He recently teamed with Jennifer Lopez for What You Mean To Me, a song featured on Finding Neverland: The Album, a collection of songs from the hit Broadway musical, performed by many of today’s top music stars.

For his local concerts, Songz will be supported by local acts.

Tickets for the Women’s Day Trey Songz Tour, as it is being billed, are priced from R595 to R950 for the Durban concert, and from R650 to R1 195 for the Johannesburg one. They can be bought at www.ticketpro.co.za or by phoning 0861 008 277.
