Sizzling-hot

It’s raining hot music in Jozi this weekend! Rammstein, Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D and, of course, U2.

Rammstein is possibly one of the most evil bands to hit our shores. Coming from an industrial metal background, and never compromising on their vicious sound, they will have all the metal heads and goths in suburbia crawling out of their coffins, dusting off their Docs and heading for the Coca-Cola Dome tomorrow night.

With a capacity of 17 000, Rammstein is sold out.

The band has no support act and are scheduled to go on at 8pm.

On Saturday night Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D perform in the Legends in the Making Tour.

This is the culmination of a brand activation around the country by Hansa. It featured Malaika, Futuresound, Zuluboy, Kwela Tebza, Vusi, Freedom and Ntando performing at Hansa Legend events across South Africa.

Fans were able to win tickets around the country resulting in 6 000 winners and celebrities attending the concert to be held at the Standard Bank Arena.

Doors open at 5pm with the first artist on at 7pm. All the mentioned artists are scheduled to perform on the night.

There is obviously a beer garden for a sundowner or two before the show.

There are no tickets for sale as Hansa say this is their way of giving back to their consumers.

Sunday sees the biggest concert to hit our shores since, well, probably since the last time U2 performed in Joburg.

About 101 000 people are expected to descend on FNB Stadium in Soweto for what is considered the biggest live music spectacle in the history of music.

At the time of going to press Computicket had released a few thousand tickets at R695.

The logistical nightmare of parking has been completely reduced thanks to the World Cup and the introduction of park-n-ride facilities. These start at noon.

Park-n-ride venues are at Constitutional Hill, The Coca-Cola Dome, Emperors Palace and Gold Reef City. Tickets cost R70 return.

Park-n-rail costs R50. The train will drop you off and pick you up from Nasrec, which is a five- minute walk from the stadium.

Venues are Pretoria and Centurion stations and Rhodes Field near OR Tambo. Trains will also leave from Joburg Station, Roodepoort Station, Germiston and Springs stations.

Gates only open at 4.30pm, but there will be vendors selling merchandise and refreshments outside all afternoon. Please note that there are no ATM facilities at the stadium so bring cash.

Support acts Miriam and Amadou begin the concert at 8pm. The Springbok Nude Girls perform at 8.45pm and U2 go on at 9.30pm.

To be a music fan in Jozi this weekend, makes us feel we are finally part of the international scene. It’s a great feeling.
