Johannesburg - Lady Gaga fans are well known for their wild and outrageous styles – and yesterday was no different.

Over 65 000 Little Monsters, many of them from Durban, took over the FNB stadium in Joburg to watch the five-time Grammy Award winner perform live for the very first time in South Africa last night.

Lady Gaga arrived in the country on Tuesday and was scheduled to perform two shows, in Joburg and Cape Town, as part of her worldwide “Born This Way” tour.

Brightly coloured dresses and wigs were the order of the day, and even men were seen trying to move around the stadium in six inch high heels. Gaga fans painted skeletons on their faces, and fans wrote messages of love to Gaga on their t-shirts.

One man even took it as far as wearing a biltong dress to the concert, hoping he would attract Gaga’s attention.

Fans began waiting outside the Calabash from as early as 4am today hoping to get the best possible view of Gaga. The first 250 people to enter the stadium were given the opportunity of standing in the Monster Pit which is an exclusive section right in front of stage.

Heena Prag, who arrived at midday at the stadium, said it was a dream come true being able to watch her favourite singer live.

“This has definitely been the highlight of my year,” said 22-year-old Prag.

Another Gaga fan, who only gave her name as Nafeesa J, said she had been having sleepless nights ahead of the concert.

“These opportunities only happen once in a lifetime so I couldn’t miss watching my hero live in my home town.” she said.
