This winter, a concert that is larger than life makes its way to the Cradle of Humankind. Called Guitar Giants, the event is presented by acousticsNOW, a tri-annual acoustic concert programme which partners with Pangolan Productions, and will take place on Saturday.

The concert will happen during the Nirox Winter festival that sees more than 60 sculptures by South Africans displayed.

As the name suggests, the event will see some of the best guitarists in South Africa perform for those who love music and the great outdoors. This is in line with acousticsNow’s mission to fuse art and nature. The concert will feature the likes of Guy Buttery, Madala Kunene, Lerato Lichaba, Tessa Ziegler and more.

All of the artists are regarded as guitar maestros with, for example, Guitar Player Magazine going so far as to say “Guy Buttery’s goal is to stretch the boundaries of fingerstyle guitar to their outermost limits.” These limits and others will be explored at the grassy amphitheatre at this sculpture park.

Gates open at 10am and performances will start at 11am. Music lovers and their families are encouraged to come early for a fun-filled day of music and art.

The day will celebrate art including that of the culinary variety. The Epicurean Emporium brings together stalls from gourmet food and design markets and goods will be on sale. In addition to titillating the tastebuds, the idea is to introduce and encourage attendees to eat naturally sourced and healthy food.

Saturday promises to be a return to nature in many ways. So, accordingly, the musos who are taking part will strip down the fancy trappings of some sounds to present an excellent acoustic experience.
