As far as reunions go, Tweak had an epic one at Oppikoppi. After almost a decade of having let one member go, adding two more and changing their name to CrashCarBurn, the alternative rockers played one set for the fans on the James Phillips stage.

Obviously, it was difficult to get close to the stage once they’d started because it was so packed with people chasing nostalgia. But just watching the band enjoy themselves and the crowd react positively was cool.

They started their set with the major throwback: Houseparty. So you better call the FBIIIIIIIII, everyone sang back to the band. They fluffed up here and there, but made fun of themselves because they haven’t played these songs for so long. They also performed Girls Rule the World, but not before they playfully mocked Beyonce and hailed themselves as the musicians who praised girl power before Mrs Carter did.

These songs as well as hits like Birthday Card and more will be a part of the setlist when the group do a mini tour in Gauteng and the Western Cape this week and next week. While Tweak plan to go back to being CrashCarBurn, they felt an “anniversary tour” was a fitting tribute for a band that was once well-loved by South Africans. They weren’t wrong.
