What they think about Spikiri

Unathi:

He is the definitive. Kwaito wouldn’t be the same without him. His latest track has rescued kwaito. He has humility which many young artists should emulate. He has not been this successful for so long by accident. He has a God-given talent but he also represents the people. The MTN Samas must give him a lifetime achievement award while he is still alive.

HHP:

Spikiri is not running the rat race. We were both signed to Chicco Twala when we were young, although I was of the next generation. Chicco taught me to master my art, not go with the flow. Spikiri remains pure. He’s a master. In Kalawa, Bruce is about frequency, Mahoota is about house, and Spikiri is the groove guy. You can recognise his sound from the first kick. He uses percussion to make songs.

Stoan:

He’s been there every step of my career. He wrote the first big Bongo Maffin hit, Summertime, and then continued to write hits for years. He was a big part of our sound. His genius has not faded.

Kabelo:

He’s been like an older brother to me. When I reached out to him in my first solo album, he was there. He’s been the man behind most of my hits. I wouldn’t be who I am without him.
