Magic Johnson has praised Charlie Sheen for breaking his silence on battling HIV and is hopeful he'll “fight the disease.”

The retired professional basketball player, who announced he was HIV-positive in 1991, has offered his support to the 50-year-old actor and has reassured him medicine nowadays is so advanced that he will likely to go on to “live a long life.”

Taking to his Twitter account, Magic, 56, who is a HIV/AIDS activist, tweeted: “I wish @CharlieSheen and his family the best. With the advancement in treatments and medicine he can fight this disease and live a long life.

The former 'Two and a Half Men' star announced he has been HIV-positive for the past four years on 17 November but the illness has caused more than just health woes as his financial situation has spiralled out of control as well.

Charlie has admitted he's been forced to fork out more than $10 million to blackmailers over the past few years in a bid to keep his secret hidden from the public.

However, despite coming clean, the troubled actor is still facing difficulty as he's reportedly had no choice but to sell two of his three mansions in California to boost his income.

Charlie is planning to flog his Spanish villa-style home, which he bought in 2012 for $4.8 million, and a six-bedroom property he snapped up in 2011 for almost $7 million.

However, he plans to keep the mansion he bought in 2006, Variety reports.
