London - John Lennon’s killer has been denied release from jail for a seventh time.

Mark Chapman, 57, was refused parole after a hearing on Wednesday.

He was sentenced to 20 years to life for shooting Lennon, 40, outside a Manhattan apartment in 1980.

Parole board member Sally Thompson praised Chapman’s “positive efforts while incarcerated” but said his release would “trivialise the tragic loss of life caused as a result of this heinous, unprovoked, violent, cold and calculated crime”.

Chapman can try again for parole in two years. He is serving his time in the maximum security Wende Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Yoko Ono, 79, who saw Chapman put four bullets into her husband, has asked that he remain behind bars. - Daily Mail
