A company director has denied murdering a fellow guest at a Jessie J concert by hitting him with glass and severing an artery.

Ashley Charles is accused of smashing a bottle into the neck of Phillip Sherriff during a BlackBerry launch inside the Pulse club in Southwark, south London, on April 4.

The deceased 37-year-old married father-of-two from Preston, Lancashire, died four days later.

The telecommunications worker passed away on April 8, despite an operation on his skull to help relieve pressure on his brain.

Ashley from the Leicester area of England, appeared at the Old Bailey court via video link from Belmarsh Prison to enter a not guilty plea.

The 25-year-old man was remanded in custody until his trial on October 29.

His barristers are launching a review over an earlier refusal to grant him bail.

Jessie J is currently touring Europe and tweeted about how emotional she was last night.

She wrote: “Tonight was emotional. Thank you Shrewsbury :) xxx
