Nelly has been arrested on drug charges.

The 'Dilemma' hitmaker has been booked by police after his tour bus was stopped in Tennessee, United States, gossip website TMZ reports.

The vehicle was originally pulled over because of an improper Department of Transportation sticker but when police searched the bus, they allegedly found a small amount of marijuana and several guns.

The 40-year-old star was charged with felony possession of drugs, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on bail later the same day.

Another man who was travelling on the bus was also arrested, authorities revealed.

In a statement, the rapper's lawyer stated: "Nelly was one of several individuals that was on a tour bus that was stopped and searched while traveling through Tennessee. In fact, there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop.

"Allegedly, a small quantity of contraband was discovered during the routine search. We are extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered."
