London - Russell Crowe has thanked fans for their support after his marriage ended.

The ‘Gladiator’ actor and his wife Danielle Spencer – who have sons Charles, eight, and Tennyson, six, together – revealed their separation earlier this month but until now Russell has not commented on the situation.

After a fan named Sarah tweeted him on Sunday (21.10.12) to commiserate, writing “Heard about your separation today. I said a prayer for you and your family”, Russell responded by tweeting “Hey Sarah, that was very kind of you. Thank you for your thoughts.”

Russell, 48 and 43-year-old Danielle first met 22 years ago on the set of the movie 'The Crossing' and were married in a purpose-built chapel at the actor’s farm in Australia in 2003.

However, Russell is trying to remain positive and has even been cracking jokes on twitter.

The actor had to grow the facial hair for his latest role as the title character in biblical epic ‘Noah’ and joked he won’t be hiring himself out as a Santa Claus lookalike as he plans to shave it off before Christmas.

He tweeted: “The beard will be gone mid November so, no I’m not booking Christmas shows #missedopportunity (sic).” - Bang Showbiz
