London - Paul Walker's last words before his death were: "Let's go for a drive."

The 40-year-old actor died on Saturday when the Porsche Carrera GT he was a passenger in smashed into a tree and burst into flames after he and friend Roger Rodas, who was driving the supercar, decided to go out for a short drive at a charity event.

Roger was in the middle of parking the vehicle into a bay when Paul arrived at the fundraiser at high end car shop Always Evolving – which Paul had a stake in – after one of his employees was having difficulty backing the vehicle into the store.

When Roger took the wheel the star went up to him and asked if they could go out in the Porsche as he hadn't driven in it yet.

Paul's friend Jim Torp said: "Roger backed it in to the garage and Paul jumped in and said, 'Hey, let's go for a drive'.

"So they went for a little drive and this is what happened."

The Porsche was a mangled wreck following the fatal accident, but Jim admitted Paul – who is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow - "had to die this way" as he was such a huge fan of fast cars and spent a lot of his movie career acting in them on the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise.

He added to the New York Daily News newspaper: "It's strange.

"[Walker] made his movies. He lived his life and he died fast and furious today. He loved speed, he loved cars, and he had to die this way. He died in a very fast car with his friend."

Paul’s 'Fast & Furious' co-star Tyrese Gibson broke down in tears while visiting the scene of his death.

The 34-year-old actor-and-rapper, who starred alongside the 40-year-old actor in the action franchise, stopped by the crash scene in Santa Clarita, California, to pay respects to Paul.

Tyrese remained silent as he walked up to the site carrying a yellow flower in his hand, but was reduced to tears as he approached the tragic scene.

The star then took away a piece of wreckage from the scene, before posting a picture of the scrap metal in his hand on Instagram.

He captioned the photo, writing: "I will keep your energy with me forever #AshesOfAnAngel fast family around the world we live you and we love you ...

"Paul is the heartbeat of this franchise and were gonna see to it that his energy and presence lives on forever #myhearthurtssobad (sic)"

Paul's other co-stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Ludacris and Vin Diesel also paid tribute to him shortly after news of his death broke.

Dwayne tweeted: "All my strength, love & faith to the Walker family during this heart-breaking time. We find our strength.. in his light. Love you brother."

Rapper Ludacris tweeted: "Your humble spirit was felt from the start, wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark, we were like brothers & our birthdays are only 1 day apart, now You will forever hold a place in all of our hearts paulwalker legacy will live on forever. R.I.P."

Meanwhile, Vin Diesel posted on Instagram: "Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace."

Walker’s ‘Into the Blue’ co-star Jessica Alba wrote on Twitter: "Damn. Hard to imagine someone so full of life taken so soon. My thoughts go out to your family. RIP Pauly Walker".- Bang Showbiz and AFP
