Jermaine Jackson is set to divorce his wife after nine years of marriage.

The former Jackson Five star has filed for divorce from wife Alejandra blaming irreconcilable differences.

The couple, who married in 1995, separated earlier this month and have two children, eight-year-old Jaafar and Jermajesty, four, who will continue to live with their mother at the family home in California.

Jermaine, who turns 50 next month, also has five other children, three from his marriage to Hazel Gordy - the daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy - which ended in 1988, and two others from a previous relationship.

News of the divorce will be another setback for the Jackson family, who have been rocked by child abuse allegations being fought by Jermaine's 46-year-old brother Michael.

The troubled star, who is due to stand trial in January, has denied all allegations against him, and elder brother Jermaine has staunchly defended the singer claiming recently that he is "1000% innocent".
