AN unforeseen accident which has landed Linda Gcwensa - one of the founding members of award-winning gospel group, Avante - in hospital has led to a postponement in auditions for the group which were supposed to take place on Saturday.

A statement released today said the auditions were scheduled to take place at the Stable Theatre in Durban with the objective of casing two new members for the group. This is part of a comeback plan for the hit group who've been out of action for the past four years.

The audition's postponement follows Gcwensa's accident last week when, while travelling from KwaMashu township to Durban, his motor vehicle collided with a truck. Both he and his mother, who was with him at the time, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. He has since been moved out of ICU and is reportedly recovering.

The unforeseen incident has affected plans to hold the auditions, which will now be held on 2 May at the same venue. This has been decided so as to afford Gcwensa time to get back on his feet and participate in choosing the two new voices for Avante.

Avante is a multi-award winning all-male gospel group that was formed in the early 90s by Gcwensa, James Langa, Lucky Cele, the late Bongani Ngcobo and Sphiwe Khanyile who joined together with one vision in mind: “to spread the gospel through music”.

Sadly, at the peak of their career the group unfortunately lost two of its co-founding members, namely Ngcobo and Khanyile, who died of health-related causes. This led to their absence from the music scene since then.

After the auditions, plans are afoot for the group to record a new DVD later in the year and thereafter proceed with a national tour.
