Bonang Matheba and her ex-boyfriend DJ Euphonik have dug up the hatchet.

The former power couple took to social media on Wednesday after Matheba commented on an Instagram post by Marie Claire South Africa that spoke of Euphonik as an advocate against woman abuse.

The post read: “Violence against women is probably the greatest injustice in the world.’ @euphonik stands tall for #MCInHerShoes”

She was referring to a campaign by the magazine in which male celebrities wore high heels “to show that it takes a real man to stand up against gender-based violence”.

Matheba responded to the post with the laughing face emoticons and CC-ed her best friend, Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo.

In 2012, Matheba opened a case of physical abuse against the DJ while they were a couple. It was followed by photos of her beaten-up face surfacing in the media.

Euphonik responded to the jibe by tagging Matheba and saying: “Maybe next month discuss the crying wolfs” and added a smiley face.

Instead of responding to him directly, Matheba sent a message to Mhlongo saying: “I’ve never laughed so hard.”

Mhlongo didn’t respond to either message from his friend.

Marie Claire editor Aspasia Karras tweeted in defence of Euphonik, saying: “We welcomed @euphonik into this campaign and view his participation in the spirit it was intended as an important declaration. I thank the men who stood up for our cause – a brave act in our chauvinist society. I stand by the men who chose to participate. The vital debate that #MCInHerShoes has generated is crucial and important.”

After the initial interaction, Euphonik posted a picture of a snake on the ground and captioned it: “I’ll give it another 24 hours and see if the cc’d friend responds. There’s an African proverb about this situation.”
