After the success of his first adult film Soweto Sex Files, director Kagiso Modise is already sizing up his next blue movie.
The locally produced film, the first adult movie to be shot in Soweto, is 100 percent hardcore, filmed in the vernacular and scored with kwaito music to unrehearsed sex action.
The 107-minute movie, which hit stores last weekend, is shot by Soweto-based porn company LiquidCity Productions.
It has four scenes and features eight porn actors – four males and four females – all in their 20s and all amateurs when it comes to any form of acting.
Modise says he has been thrilled with the response the DVD has sparked.
“More and more people are visiting our website to find out where they can get their hands on the DVD; it’s only been a week but the word has been spreading.”
Modise, who is new to the business, said that although he’d spent a lot filming the movie in Soweto, it was money well spent.
“Even though it’s a 100 percent amateur porn movie,” said Modise, “we had to hire equipment, get people to operate the equipment, pay for post production, pay the actors, as well as pay for soundtracks, so it was very costly, but I believe we will make the money back from DVD sales.”
Before shooting Soweto Sex Files, Modise was a wedding videographer. Now he plans on making it big in the adult film industry. He plans a series of porn movies set and made in Soweto.
“Many things are happening in Soweto these days and we would like to relay it in our movies,” he said.
“For instance there have been so many instances where a man comes home from work only to find his wife sleeping with another man. These kinds of issues will be featured in our movies,” said Modise.
“We also will be promoting safe sex in our movies, which is very important to us.”
There had been no complaints so far about Soweto Sex Files, Modise said.
“Maybe it’s the calm before the storm. The DVD has only been released for a week so we might get some negative reaction once everyone knows it’s out. But so far we have got a great response, which we are happy about.”
Modise said he’d been delighted by the number of people who had applied to feature in Soweto Sex Files.
“While it was mainly guys who entered, we were really happy with the number of applications we received online,” he said. “All we did was advertise on our website and we got a flurry of applications, which was really great.”
The lead in Soweto Sex Files, Msopo Dlamini, 24, from Soweto, said he felt it was his destiny that he would star in a porn movie.
Dlamini is joined by Thabang Modise, Small and Tebza, who make up the male porn cast, while the female porn actresses are exotic dancer Busi Maseko, Lindiwe Kunene, Lerato Mokwena and Thembi Khoza, who are all in their twenties.
Dlamini said it had been fun.
“I enjoy having sex in front of people, so for me I wasn’t one bit shy,” he said. “Also I have a camcorder and before shooting Soweto Sex Files I used to film my private sexual endeavours, so I knew I was good at it and would make the cut,” added Dlamini.
He said his family and friends had all supported his decision to feature in a porn movie and now he’s looking forward to a successful career in porn.
“I think I got mad skills. I love my hip hop and Brian Pumper is my hero,” he said, adding that he liked the way Pumper fused hip hop and porn together.
