Durban - For those who have just swallowed the hot coal that is the petrol price hike on Wednesday, there is still another to come – MultiChoice has announced it will raise the cost of DStv on April 1.
TV watchers will now fork out well above the inflation rate of 6.5 percent to enjoy pay channels.
DStv Premium will increase by R40 to R665. DStv Compact will cost R295 from R275.
DStv Extra will now cost R399 from R380.
The Family and Select packages will increase by R10 and will both cost R185.
For those on a budget the two cheaper packages are unchanged.
DStv Access and DStv EasyView cost R99 and R29, respectively.
Following the announcement of the price hikes subscribers vented their anger on social media, criticising the adjustments.
Nqobile Ndlovu (@turkish_nabs) said the increase felt like salt was being rubbed into her wounds.
“E-tolls, DStv price increase, Eskom price hikes, a weak rand, with food prices rising too. Life in SA is getting very expensive,” she wrote.
Alwynne Baatjies posted on the company’s online platform: “My problem with Multichoice is simple! I don't watch 90 percent of the channels, I use it only for sport, yet they would never offer a Sports package or a package where you can personalise your viewing experience.”
Marietjie Groenewald, Multichoice spokeswoman, said the company would respond to questions about the increment on Wednesday.
