It was a food fight that was fun for everyone to watch.

Franchise restaurants had a ball on Twitter after rock band Prime Circle pitted them against each other.

It began when the band put up a picture of their meal being served with Nando’s butter at a Spur restaurant on Friday.

They tweeted: “@SpurRestaurant, people with a taste for…@NandosSA. Bit confused here…” This was a play on the steakhouse’s slogan: “Spur – people with a taste for life.”

The @NandosSA Twitter account responded cheerfully saying: “@Prime_Circle Everyone wants a piece of us! There is enough of us to go around ;)”

To which Spur responded by tweeting: “@nandossa Thanks for trying to butter up our customers. ;) haha.”

The Portuguese chicken brand retorted saying it wasn’t trying to butter up customers since it had already done that.

Then people retweeted the food war and congratulated the brands for their humour.

“Absolutely brilliant banter,” said @goodrich_bok and @Wiat41 added: “absolute awesome comment section, I had a good laugh!”

Prime Circle added another brand to the food fracas saying:

“We scooped the butter for our @WOOLWORTHS_SA muffins snack down the road.”

This is when Woolworths jumped in, saying: “*Sits back and reaches for the popcorn*”

Nando’s rejoined and tweeted: “We seem to be the common denominator here *grabs popcorn with @WOOLWORTHS_SA * We’ve been Spurred on!”

But Spur wrapped it up by saying: “Our job here is done. #Spur: Bringing everyone together over great food. ;)”
