Durban - Minnie Dlamini was in the city on Saturday, stopping traffic at some of Durban’s iconic places.

She was shooting the final leg of her 2015 calendar.

The Sunday Tribune was exclusively invited to attend the shoot, which took place at the Warwick Junction Market, Moses Mabhida Stadium and a sports field in KwaMashu.

“Durban is my home town so I wanted my calendar to have iconic elements of it. It’s very personal to me, from the beach to the stadium, these are all familiar places to me,” she said.

The star attracted crowds of people who all wanted a chance to be snapped with her, from taxi drivers and passengers to young boys playing soccer. “I can’t believe Ma Dlamini is here in town having such a big photo shoot, I love her,” said a passerby.

Dlamini, who recently attended New York Fashion Week, said the idea of a calendar came about on that trip.

“Celebrities doing calendars in America is a normal thing and South African personalities need to start doing the same. There were a few in the past but nothing any more. I want people to enjoy more of me.”

The actress, who has been on shows such as The Wild and Rockville, is also an SABC Sports presenter, ambassador for the Department of Agriculture Forestry & Fisheries, and the face of Motions Hair Care.

“I love what I do and I work with amazing people who make it even better,” she said.

Dlamini confirmed that she would be hosting this year’s South African Sports Awards on November 30. “I am very excited and glad to be hosting it again.”

Her calendar will be available in stores in November. Proceeds go to the Minnie Dlamini Foundation, which helps girls realise their talents and dreams.
