Los Angeles - Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey sealed his fame for posterity on Monday, unveiling a new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I’ve got my name, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” the 44-year-old Interstellar star crooned at a podium on Los Angeles's Hollywood Boulevard.

“There's a song in there somewhere,” he joked.

His Interstellar director Christopher Nolan, who introduced him, called him a “terrific” movie star.

Interstellar co-stars Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain applauded from seats in the audience.

“This is a great moment in my career and my life,” said McConaughey, who brought his wife Camila and their three small children to the ceremony.

The Texas-born McConaughey has acted in more than 40 films, including dramas like The Jury (1996), Amistad (1997), and The Lincoln Lawyer (2011), as well as comedies including Dazed & Confused (1993) - his first film role - Failure To Launch (2006) and Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past (2009). He won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Actor and widespread praise for his role as a crusading Aids patient in Dallas Buyers Club.

But while Hollywood stardom is a rare and precious thing, Hollywood stars add up. Organisers said McConaughey's star was the 2 534th to be installed since 1958. - Sapa-dpa
