Robert Pattinson reportedly skipped Venice Film Festival to avoid his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

The 'Twilight' star was due to attend a screening of 'The Childhood of a Leader' at the Italian event but pulled out at the last minute, citing filming commitments for 'The Lost City of Z'.

However, a source claims he had no plans to show at the festival, telling the New York Post's Page Six column: “He didn't want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other. Venice is very small ... and there are only so many parties and hotels.”

And there may be the possibility of an on-screen reunion, after Wyck Godfrey, a producer behind the vampire films teased the possible chance of a sequel.

He said: “They've each been really smart about the way they've followed up their Twilight careers in that they've not jumped into big studio fare in general. They've chosen directors and movies based on the movie, not the size of the movie.

“We keep in touch with all of them in the way you keep in touch with actors who have busy lives and are half your age. Every half-year we catch up and try to find something else to work on together.”
