Royal headache for lonely Harry

Prince Harry’s single status has been the subject of so much speculation, he’s been described as a “lonely Bridget Jones figure”.

His love life has already had a rom-com ration of ups-and-downs. The Prince, who turned 31 on Tuesday, is now rumoured to be in a love triangle involving two old flames, Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas.

Last week it emerged that Harry, who spent three months on a wildlife conservation project in Africa this year, might have rekindled his romance with Zimbabwean socialite Davy. The pair had previously dated for seven years before they split up, on the eve of his brother’s wedding, in 2011.

Some royal watchers were excited by the project, reporting that Harry had met with Davy and her family in a deliberate campaign to win her back.

“Harry still holds a candle for her (Chelsy),” a source told the Daily Mail. “Chelsy has his heart. They saw each other recently. There’s still very much something between them, but Chelsy won’t commit yet because she doesn’t want to lead a life in the spotlight. Harry’s very sensitive to that. He has never fallen out of love with Chelsy.”

Cue a spanner in the works. Former lover Cressida Bonas has now split from her boyfriend, actor Edward Holcroft.

The 27-year-old model and actress is said to have regretted breaking up with Harry in 2014 following a two-year romance during which rumours of a secret engagement emerged. While it has been suggested that Cressida may have been jealous about the reports of Harry and Davy getting back together, a friend of Bonas suggests that it is in fact the prince who still harbours feelings for the model. Allegedly, Harry only started pursuing Davy again because Bonas had no interest in being with him.

So, Davy is in pole position, but will their second stab at a relationship work?

She originally called time on their first relationship because she suspected that Harry had been unfaithful and doubted whether she would fit in with the royal set. On the eve of William and Kate’s royal marriage, she became convinced that she would never get to walk down the aisle as Harry’s bride. So, allegedly, she tried to force the issue, but was in for a shock.

“She (Davy) told him that she saw no future in the two of them being together,” said the source. “What Chelsy wasn’t expecting was Harry’s response. He told Chelsy that he felt the same way and said she was doing him a favour by calling it a day, that she was saving both of them from wasting any more of their lives.

“Chelsy was upset when Harry told her that. Part of her was hoping that he would try to persuade her to give their relationship another try.”

Whether the two can make it work again remains to be seen. But royal watchers remember a 19-year-old Harry telling Charles about Davy, saying “Papa, she’s the one”.
