London -

Official Christmas photographs of Prince George were released on Sunday ahead of the royal baby's second birthday in July.

The release of the three portraits were seen as a token of appreciation for the British media agreeing not to publish paparazzi pictures offered to them by freelance photographers.

The duke and duchess of Cambridge have severely restricted George's public appearances.

They have also warned paparazzi of legal action if they come to close to 16-month-old George, who is third in line to the throne.

The couple announced in September they were expecting a second child.

The duchess has already said that she and George will be staying home when Prince William sets off for official visits to Japan and China in February. - Sapa-dpa
