Actress Scarlett Johansson is one of the front-runners to play Hillary Clinton in the upcoming biopic, Rodham.

According to the Daily Mail, Johansson faces stiff competition from leading ladies Jessica Chastain, Amanda Seyfried and Reese Witherspoon for the role. Chastain received rave reviews for hwer performance in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, while Seyfried impressed in ‘Les Miserables’ and Witherspoon’s considerable CV was recently boosted by the critically-acclaimed ‘Mud’.

‘Rodham’ is a far cry from Johansson’’s current screen role as a raven-haired spy dressed in a sleek leather bodysuit in the second installment of ‘Captain America’. However, the actress does have previous experience in portraying real-life figures, having played Janet Leigh in the biopic ‘Hitchcock’.

Rodham, the movie, will focus on the early stages of Hillary Clinton’s career, when she was a lawyer in Washington.

Already, the film has attracted controversy. Writer Young il-Kim was forced to deny reports that the film would contain raunchy sex scenes after the script was leaked.

''Rodham' is a journey of a woman who was torn between her personal desires and her professional ambition — both literally pulled her thousands of miles apart, because Bill did not want to leave Arkansas, and she did not want to leave Washington, D.C,” Kim explained earlier this year.

Director James Ponstoldt describes Scarlett and the other candidates as “all wonderful actresses”, adding that the people behind the film are 'very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We’re in an enviable position”. - IOL
