Marilyn Manson says mistaking songs for being suicidal is missing the point of art; it’s just a “state of thought”.
The singer – who has spoken out about self-harm in the past – has assured fans he is not suicidal and that if he was to take his own life, he would “take everyone” with him.
Speaking at the Cannes Lions advertising festival on Tuesday, he said: “You might mistake a song for being suicidal, but that’s a state of thought. It’s the whole point of art. Rather than doing something, you express it.”
Meanwhile, he shut down any rumours that he was considering taking his life.
He said: “If I die and you read that I commited suicide, they lied. Because if I was going to do that I’d take everyone with me.”
Meanwhile, the star also said he doesn’t “like being a celebrity” and thinks he has “outgrown the spotlight”.
