Soli Philander has come clean about his split from his wife in an emotional social media statement.

The Cape Flats comedian and radio star says it is going to hurt but it’s something he’s got to do.

Soli last week confirmed to the Daily Voice that he is divorcing his wife of over 30 years, Toni.

The couple, who have four grown-up children together, have already separated and are no longer living together.

Soli posted a heart-wrenching essay on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, entitled “In My Own Words”.

In it, the Taxi Radio star says: “I have left my wife and partner of the last more than 30 years, Toni Philander.

“The mother of my children, my best friend and the anchor and light of my life for longer than I have been alive without her.

“It is not easy accepting that I am the architect of such profound hurt, pain and loss, but that I also know that this completely selfish and seemingly villainous act makes sense in my journey in life.

“There is much that is raw and broken around this difficult phase in my existence and much that is difficult to answer and respond to, but it doesn’t take away from the certainty of doing what I have to stay true to myself.”

This has sparked rumours online that the comedian has left his wife for someone else.

According to posts on Twitter, Toni has moved out of the family home in University Estate and is living in Belhar.

Toni tweeted: “One frequently hears motorbikes in the distance at night #Belhar.”

And she has changed her Twitter name from Toni Philander to “Toni-someone else”.

She tweeted: “Learning abt solitude, and wondering if it’s akin to loneliness. Time tells that story.”
