She once said she did not get out of bed for less than $10,000.

Now supermodel Linda Evangelista says she needs another outrageous sum just to get her young son through the day.

She stunned a family court hearing in Manhattan when she demanded £28,000 a month in child support from Francois-Henri Pinault, the French billionaire husband of actress Salma Hayek.

Her lawyers claim Mr Pinault has contributed nothing to his son’s upbringing.

It recently emerged that the mogul, heir to a £7billion family fortune, was not only the father of Miss Hayek’s three-year-old daughter Valentina but also of Miss Evangelista’s son, four-year-old Augustin.

Lawyers for the 46-year-old Canadian supermodel claim her earnings have suffered from being a single mother. They say she needs the money to pay for round-the-clock nannies and armed chauffeurs while she works.

When asked how much work she does, Miss Evangelista said she sometimes put in 16-hour days. She compared herself to an athlete, adding: “I have to hit the gym. I have beauty appointments. I have to work toward my next job and my image.”

Mr Pinault, 49, is the chief executive of the luxury brands empire PPR, which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

The hearing was told Mr Pinault spent lavishly on his daughter by Miss Hayek, spending £31,000 a month for a £7million estate held in trust in her name but had given nothing to Augustin.

Lawyers for Mr Pinault questioned why she needed a team of armed drivers and pointed out she has an estimated fortune of more than £5million. The case continues. - Daily Mail
