This one is for those South African little girls who can’t wait for the One Direction shows. We know the tickets have been sold out and the merchandise will follow suit. As you wait to check out this millennium’s version of New Kids on the Block, let’s look at a few fun facts about the members. One Direction is comprised of Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik. You might know some of these facts, but we’ll tell you more anyway.

Zayn Malik

He is a Capricorn, born on January 12, 1993. His first X-Factor audition was not aired on the show, but only later on The Xtra Factor. The official spelling of his name is Zain, but he felt Zayn was cooler. He loves the idea of being with Megan Fox, but he’d substitute her for Justine Timberlake if it came to man crushes.

Harry Styles

Born February 1, 1994, he is a village boy from Holmes Chapel in Cheshire. He masks his love for the movie Love Actually by saying he prefers Fight Night because it is more manly. He openly confessed that he had a crush on Cheryl Cole the whole time that he was on The X-Factor.

Louis Tomlinson

A fellow Capricorn like Zayn, born in 1991, Louis is a Christmas Eve baby and is the oldest of the group. He has a huge crush on Diana Vickers and confessed that his man crush is Robbie Williams.

Liam Payne

Born August 29, 1993, this Virgo loves boxing. His favourite colour is purple. Liam is into the Toy Story trilogy and says it is his best film. He grew up in Wolverhampton, the same place as Robert Plant (from Led Zeppelin).

Niall Horan

While other members love reading when they can, this guy, born September 13, 1993, has only read one book in his life – To Kill A Mockingbird. Shocking. He is left-handed and his favourite colour is blue. He keeps a good luck mascot. Like Ali Cambell, Paul McCartney and Jimi Hendrix, who are all lefties, Niall is an amazing guitar player.

• One Direction play in South Africa on the following dates: Saturday and Sunday at FNB Stadium. Limited tickets available from Computicket; April 1 at Cape Town Stadium. Sold out.
