Solange Knowles’ wedding day was going perfectly, and then she broke out in hives.
The singer was pictured with her face and neck covered in unsightly red lumps as she climbed into a waiting car with her sister Beyoncé and brother-in-law Jay-Z. Beyoncé, aware that cameras were trained on the car, attempted some sort of damage control by covering her sister up with a white sheet.
According to the source at the wedding, quoted by gossip site TMZ, Solange suffered a reaction to something she ate after tying the knot with her video director beau Alan Ferguson at a ceremony in New Orleans.
“Solange suffered some kind of food allergy, though she isn't sure what it was from....the hives were gone in a matter of minutes.”
Some online commentators however, joked that perhaps Jay-Z had slipped something into Solange’s meal, or had put a voodoo hex on her, because of her infamous elevator assault on him earlier this year.
Luckily, Solange’s allergy only surfaced after the ceremony and after-party, which featured a Mardi Gras-style street bash. Having walked down the aisle in a conservative cape dress, Solange then changed into a revealing jumpsuit for the party, and nearly suffered a wardrobe malfunction in the process.
Witnesses claim Solange seemed so happy about the success of her big day, that she at first didn’t notice that her nipple was showing as she partied away.
The wedding festivities kicked off on Friday. Solange and Alan treated family and friends to a movie screening of the 1975 film Mahogany, featuring Diana Ross – the movie they had watched on their first date. Before the movie started, the couple also screened a very personal documentary about how they had met.
“It was pretty adorable,” the movie theatre owner told People magazine.
