WITH London leaving Idols SA last Sunday, only three people are vying for the top spot. We say ‘three’ and yet two are only eligible to proceed to the finale as one will be cut on Sunday.

The three are Vincent, who has an incredible talent that keeps getting stronger each week; Bongi, who tried before and didn’t get far (she was also denied at the auditions stage this year, tried again and got in); and Lize, the lazy-speaking yet big-voiced singer who validates her performances with her guitar-playing.

Tonight caught up with all three and this is what they had to say.

VINCENT

How has the journey been so far?

The journey has been a blessing. I have received so much love from South Africa. I have learnt and grown as an individual and an artist. It’s been amazing so far.

Who were you shocked to see leave the show and why?

I was very shocked to see Musa leave because he is very talented and a true musician. He is going to go far.

Only two people stand between you and the prize. How does it feel?

I’m really honoured to have made it this far and I owe it to the South Africans who support me week in and week out. I’m really excited and blessed to be here.

If not you, who should win and why?

If not me, then I think Bongi should win because she has a beautiful voice and is very musical .

LIZE

How has the journey been so far?

The journey has been absolutely incredible. It has far exceeded my expectations and I have learnt more than I could have imagined, met very talented and resourceful contacts and grown as an artist.

Who were you shocked to see leave the show and why?

Tumi and Demi because they are so talented and Musa because he seemed to have a large following.

Only two people stand between you and the prize. How does it feel?

It’s very exciting, I feel it’s hard to lose in this situation as we’ve already come so far. But it’s the home straight and time to pull out all the stops. We are all so close to the win.

If not you, who should win and why?

I would have liked to see Tumi or Demi win, if not me, as they are as talented and they are humble, hard- working and have the most stunning personalities.

I was very sad to see them leave so early in the competition.

What’s the plan post Idols SA?

The plan is to continue with what I’ve started here and to make use of every contact I’ve made here. I’ve had such success with this platform already that it would be crazy not to take it further. I will leave studying for when my career burns out, but definitely plan to finish my law degree eventually.

BONGI

How has the journey been so far?

My journey has been really amazing. I’ve learnt and experienced a lot and met really awesome people and I’ve worked with the best musicians in the country.

Who were you shocked to see leave and why?

Musa and Tumi because they had a good following, but the show is really unpredictable now so, yeah…

Only two people stand between you and the prize. How does it feel?

It’s amazing to think that I was denied a chance in Carnival City, but I persisted and went to Pretoria, so every week is a blessing.

What’s the plan post Idols SA?

After Idols it’s gigs, releasing my single, making more music and travelling.

Idols SA, Sundays at 5.30pm on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).
