RUMOURS of another soapie cast going on strike are surfacing.

Several news reports have claimed that actors from the popular SABC2 drama Muvhango are planning to walk out after not receiving their salaries last month.

Show creator Duma ka Ndlovu referred all questions to his public relations team.

But Muvhango publicist Amanda Ngudle rubbished the rumours.

“There is nothing unusual, it’s business as usual here,” she said.

Ngudle said the actors on call for shooting scenes had reported to work as usual.

In previous reports, Ngudle confirmed to The New Age newspaper that the cast had not been paid, but were hopeful payments would be made this week.

On Monday, she said she would no longer be commenting on the salary debacle as it was an issue between the SABC and the production house, Word of Mouth.

The delay was believed to be caused by the late signing of contracts.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said an investigation would be launched to find out what had happened.

He also said payments would be made to Word of Mouth so it could pay the cast.

Last month, Ka Ndlovu took to Facebook to address claims allegedly made by Khanyi Mbau that she used to earn R80 000 when she played Doobsie in the popular soapie.

He said: “There is no production house in South Africa, today in 2014, that can pay a young inexperienced teenager R80 000, let alone in 2004.

“We as a production house have met with the SABC several times (with some of our actors) to talk about salary parity across the industry and are hoping for some progress.”
