Cape Town - A LOCAL radio boss is in hot water after a picture surfaced of him groping the bottom of a popular DJ’s wife.

Heart 104.9FM managing director Gary Petersen is now being investigated by the radio station.

The picture, taken at the Women at Heart event at the V&A Waterfront on August 30, was posted on Heart’s Facebook page but was later removed.

A source in the radio industry reveals that the DJ, whose identity is known to the Daily Voice, laid a complaint against Petersen, and even threatened to quit if the station’s board of directors did not deal with the matter.

Declined

The Daily Voice contacted the radio presenter and his wife to get their side of the story, but both declined to comment.

At the time the scandal broke, Petersen went on leave for three weeks.

The DJ and his wife also left on an overseas trip.

The Daily Voice contacted Petersen just before his flight to Paris, and he said: “I cannot comment on the specific allegations because there is an internal inquiry currently underway.

“None of those things about financial mismanagement are true, that’s not the issue.

“There is an internal process, though, and I will wait for that outcome.”

Heart said Petersen was “on scheduled annual leave until October 15, 2014”.

Conflicting

But colleagues say he was not at the Green Point studios yesterday, and there were conflicting reports about whether he is in Johannesburg on business or still on leave.

Heart confirmed that an internal process is underway but would not say if the investigation is into accusations of sexual harassment.

The station issued the following statement: “As is standard procedure for any business where a grievance is lodged against an employee, Heart 104.9FM conducts the necessary and requisite internal processes.

“Heart 104.9FM only comments on the outcome of these internal processes if and when appropriate, and only upon the conclusion of said internal processes.” - Daily Voice
