Johannesburg - Come Dine With Me South Africa has been cancelled.

This local version of the hit BBC show, in which four strangers each host a dinner party in an attempt to win a cash prize, lasted just three seasons on the BBC Entertainment channel on DStv.

Although viewers enjoyed the first two seasons, which were packed with oddball characters and petty squabbles, the concept seemed to run out of steam in season 3. According to Media.24, there were also complaints about the over-commercialisation of the series.

According to Joel Churcher, the vice president and general manager Africa for BBC Worldwide, there will be no Come Dine With Me SA season 4, but they are are looking to produce a new local format show.

“Come Dine With Me South Africa was a huge hit for BBC Entertainment and we are very proud of the series,” he said.

“We feel the time is right to take this experience and seek new opportunities for a fresh, innovative local format for audiences to enjoy. We are committed to investing in the very best quality programming for our channels and are actively looking at all opportunities.” - Tonight Reporter
