The third series of the outdoor cooking competition sees 15 teams compete. The teams of two take part in a 70-day, 9 000km culinary road trip and face a new set of challenges. Beginning in Witsand on the east coast, they also visit Cape Colombine nature reserve, the Karoo desert, and cross the border into Namibia. Finally, the last three couples travel to the Felix Unite Round the Bend Camp on the Breede River, where one of the pairs will take the title.

Follows the friendship of Mary Elizabeth “M.E” Sims, an outgoing white girl, and Rene Jackson, an introverted black girl in 1960s Alabama during the civil rights movement. They go their separate ways when Mary Elizabeth unexpectedly falls pregnant and Rene disagrees with her friend’s decision to keep the child, drop out of college and marry the father. Thirty years later, they are living different lives as Mary Elizabeth, still in Alabama, is disillusioned as she struggles to make ends meet, while Rene is a successful attorney in Washington. When tragedy strikes Rene in the form of her father’s death, she moves back to her childhood hometown to establish her own law practice. Once there, her path crosses with Mary Elizabeth’s and the two reminisce about times gone by and the intervention of fate as the present is interwoven with storylines from their past.
