Hundreds of adoring fans flocked to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping on Thursday to watch their favourite Idols finalist perform.

Idols SA Season 10 finalists Bongi Silinda, 24, from Mbombela, and Pietermaritzburg’s Vincent Bones, 30, in a last attempt to garner more votes, have been meeting fans across the country, ahead of the Idols X finale this Sunday.

Durban fans were divided, with equal cheer for both contestants. Team Bongi made an extra effort with branded pink T-shirts and balloons.

Bones, who quit his musical directing job at a church in Pietermaritzburg to take part in Idols earlier this year, hopes to become the next Idols winner from KZN.

“Win or lose, I have a plan and it involves music,” said Bones.

“I want to sing until I am 60.”

Bones has been writing songs for the past five years: “I am a sucker for loves songs, with that soul sort of sound.”

Silinda, who studied jazz music for three years, entered Idols in 2010, where she got through to the Top 31.

“There is no Plan B; it was always (going to) be music,” said Silinda, who dropped out of her university degree to pursue a musical career.

“I am doing this for myself and my family, who haven’t had the opportunities that I have been lucky enough to get,” she said.
