After the success of its inaugural run, MTV’s awkward show Ex on the Beach is back – and it just might be bigger. Eight hot singles are taken for a ride with the false belief that they are going on holiday. Upon arrival they realise that they are not really there to bask in the sun because their exes are also on the island.

If you are immersing yourself in the show, you’re probably wondering if you could face something like this. Which ex would you be able to face? Is there a chance that you could be together again? These are some of the questions the people in this second season have to answer.

Almost every ex fits into a category, from “the one who got away” to “the biggest mistake” and as the reunion for our lab rats on the beach gathers pace, we will know who is what. The ones who broke up amicably are more likely to be friends and tolerate each other and perhaps find their love again. On the contrary, the ones who had a nasty break-up should be fun to watch because they should have a unique way of reuniting. There will still be things that need to be said and, if we are lucky, some sort of revenge to be exacted.

A good surprise is in the form of Geordie Shore exes, Gaz and Charlotte, upon whom the show rests. Of interest is the fact that Charlotte is not the only ex that Gaz has on the show. Several of his one-night stands are also on the island, so it is going to be priceless to see what his reaction will be.

There are two ways of looking at this show and relating it to our own lives. One, the idea of rewinding into the past and “fixing” what went wrong is always enticing, especially when the present is not working out. However, what we never talk about is the fact that when any relationship fails, there are solid reasons why. Should there be need to rekindle that relationship, the first place to start is facing the areas that led to the break-up in the first place. All parties on Ex on the Beach need to do the same if they are hoping for a bright future.

Second, which is most probable, this TV show is just fishing for drama. It’s like placing a snake, a cat and a rat in one box and expecting them to live together harmoniously. Of course there will be blood, and likewise MTV is hoping for action with Ex on the Beach.

Ex on the Beach season 2 airs tomorrow at 9.15pm on MTV (DStv channel 130).
