Sex is the key ingredient in the success of any sitcom. Who’s having it, who isn’t, who’s going to have it, who could have had some were it not for a freakish mishap/misunderstanding – these are some of the well-worn plotlines almost all sitcoms turn to for laughs and ratings.

Even when there is a lot of sex in a sitcom (think “Sex and the City”, or “Two and a Half Men”), not every character gets to score. Usually one character has an insatiable appetite, illiciting a mixture of scorn and envy from co-stars and viewers alike. However, according to media website Splitsider, one show managed to buck this trend.

In the phenomenally popular “Friends”, the cast netted an impressive 85 partners over the course of ten seasons. Dim-witted Joey (Matt LeBlanc) finished top of the class with 17 partners. Only 23.5 percent of those dalliances, however, led to long-term relationships. The show’s other ditz Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) tied for second place with the neurotic Ross (David Schwimmer) with 16. Phoebe dated only 37.5 percent of her partners, while Ross elected to get serious with 50 percent of women he slept with.

Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) sex partners developed into long relationships 71.4 percent of the time. Her 14 conquests include Ross.

Monica (Courtney Cox) had 13 lovers, with 38.5 percent of those developing into more than just a once-off.

Chandler (Matthew Perry) was never really a ladies man, so it isn’t much of a surprise that he props up the list. Over 10 seasons, Chandler had nine liasons, with 33 percent turning into something a bit more special. - IOL
