SA MUSICIAN and actor Steve Hofmeyr is set to be roasted.

Hofmeyr, 47, will be the first “African Roastee” when he faces the hot seat for the first African Comedy Central Roast on DStv 122, Viacom International Media Networks Africa has announced.

The controversial actor, activist, poet and Afrikaner poster-boy will be grilled by the Comedy Central Roastmaster and roasters in a show based on the format used in America.

Celebrities such as William Shatner, David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Charlie Sheen have endured jibes by their peers.

Similarly, Hofmeyr will face provocation, insults and outrageous anecdotes, or tributes in the name of good humour.

He will then get the opportunity to have a go at his roasters and to refute his critics.

Public spats and sex scandals have landed Hofmeyr in hot water, making him easy pickings for roasters.

“You could say I’ve been fuelling the flames of this roast for a long time,” Hofmeyr said.

The show is to be recorded at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City Casino, in Joburg on September 11, and will premiere on Comedy Central on September 24.
